I had been sitting close to our campfire, but by the time I got back to the tent I was freezing.
（私はキャンプファイヤーの近くに座っていましたが、テントに戻る頃には凍えていました。）

get back to は「～に戻る」という意味で、ある場所に戻るという意味だけでなく、作業などをいったん中断したあとに再び始めるときに用いられます。また、手紙を返信したり連絡を返したりする意味でも用いられます。

類似の表現としては、go back to や return to があります。これらの表現も「戻る」という意味を持ちますが、get back to が、中断した活動に戻ることや連絡をすることを強調するのに対して、go back to や return to は、単に戻るという意味になります。
